Biocitizen Los Angeles is proud to offer a National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) course on back-country safety! Two fantastic instructors will provide an engaging, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine, taught over two days by our partners at NOLS. If you are getting deep into the surrounding Mountain Ranges SoCal has to offer, go on weekend family outdoor activities, or generally like to recreate outdoors, this course is for you. This course is open to people of all experience levels and for anyone who tends to spend time in nature far removed from where Emergency Medical Services response can be expected in a timely manner (fewer than eight hours).

You will learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions. You’ll learn both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather, so come prepared for the heat or dry winds of a SoCal Spring! Successful completion of this NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute course results in a Wilderness First Aid certification. You may be eligible to recertify your NOLS Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, or Wilderness EMT (wilderness portion only) certification on this course. Please review NOLS recertification policies prior to registering (https://www.nols.edu/en/courses/wilderness-medicine/recertify)
