Savannah first learned about Biocitizen when she was a teacher at Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts. There, she created arts-integrated projects that fostered environmental advocacy and social justice. Her favorite project was all about sustainability. The students researched ideas to make the school more sustainable and presented their designs at City Hall. She was so inspired by this project that she decided to go back to school to get a Master’s in environmental science! Since then, she completed her California Naturalist Certification, earned a Geotech Skills Certificate, and conducted field research examining the effects of frequent fire disturbance on native and invasive plant species in the Angeles National Forest.
Savannah also has a BFA in musical theater from Cal State Fullerton. Before becoming a teacher, she was a singer, dancer, actor, and even a magician’s assistant. She’s disappeared, reappeared, and been sawed in half, she’s sailed the world as a performer with Oceania Cruises, and she’s danced with Mickey and Minnie in Disney Live touring stage shows. She still loves to perform, but now she would rather spend her time backpacking, camping, hiking, and exploring!
