Colette Bartel

Colette (she/her) grew up exploring the San Gabriel mountains right outside of LA, hiking, and adventuring with her family. Her passion for nature and her desire to protect it began with her deep love for animals. Saving hurt birds in her neighborhood and following fox tracks on hikes led to a curiosity about their habitats and the Earth that all living beings share.

She pursued this passion in college at USC, studying Environmental Science. Apart from her studies, Colette tutored young students, led trail restoration hikes, and was an activist for animals. Working in elementary school gardens with The Garden School Foundation and Enrich LA, she discovered where she fit in the environmental movement: education. So, she picked an Education minor to hone her teaching skills and learn how to promote equity in education.

When she’s not hiking with the kiddos, Colette loves to walk dogs, surf, create art, and spend as much time outside as she can. You can find her volunteering with environmental activist groups such as Food Forward and Solar Rights Alliance.

Colette finds so much fulfillment and joy in working with young students to help foster their appreciation and knowledge of nature, and she is so excited to share her love of Earth with all the young Biocitizens!
