Much like a weatherman named Rain, Ashley Storey is all about storytelling. Storey is a Plant and Wildlife Naturalist native to Compton, California. In a place that never seemed ideal for an environmental career to develop, Storey found her purpose in reframing the mindset of the common urban jungle city dweller. Starting her career as a 19-year-old intern with the City of Compton — Storey helped to push the initiative to draw the public’s attention to the city’s greatest natural landmark, the Compton Creek, by designing sustainable artwork that expressed the historical beauty and relevance to the modern Comptonite.

Ashley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from CSU San Bernardino and a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Environments and Planning from Bond University, one of Queensland, Australia’s top private institutions. Ashley has used her education and training as a Certified Interpretive Guide, Guide Trainer, California Naturalist, and Program Facilitator to educate the people of the world about the ground beneath their feet. As a lobbyist, Storey has knocked on doors in Sacramento and spoken at rallies for California propositions supporting outdoor equity and the growth in urban green space. Ashley’s expansive knowledge of California’s flora and fauna and her love of teaching has lead her to work for some of Los Angeles’ leading institutions for environmental education such as; The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Navitat Zipline, Community Nature Connection, The International Bird Rescue Center in San Pedro, CA, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and The Los Angeles Unified School District.

Ashley is thrilled to join the team of Biocitizen LA, further committing her life to introduce minds young and old to the beauty of what surrounds them.
